Finial from Glenfinnan Railway station.
Railway finials are decorative in nature, these ornamental accents were frequently used atop of signal post and even railway buildings. The finial used on the highland line which you see in this image is from the Glenfinnan Station Museum, the finial however exactly matches the finials which can be found at Blair Atholl Station on top of their semaphore signal post. Blair Atholl is one of a small number of stations in Scotland who still have mechanical semaphore signals. These finials are heavy wrought iron objects that have been painted white to match the rest of the signal post. Ornate finials were popular during the Victorian era.
