Finned tube heat exchanger is a class of heat exchanger, also called as air heat exchanger. A finned tube increase the heat transfer surface area for the fluid outside the tube, which is usually air or other gas. The fins are more useful when the out side fluid is air or some other gas because the heat transfer co-efficient air is much low in this case. Therefore larger heat transfer surface areas leads to high rates of heat transfer. Finned tube heat exchangers are used in verity of domestic and industrial applications as an air heat exchanger. An air heat exchanger is like the evaporator coil of an air conditioning unit is typically a finned tube heat exchanger. Main purpose of an air heat exchanger is to cool the hot liquid flowing in tubes with air passing beneath the fins. It’s assumed hot water is flowing inside the tube from left end to right and cold air passing outside of tubes beneath the fins.
