This is a 3D scan of a wooden fishing hook. This hook was used in a pile-dwelling settlement on an island in Lake Keutschach many years ago to catch large fish. Since wood floats, a weight was attached to the knob of the hook so that the bait would float slightly above the lake bottom. The 6,000-year-old site where this object was found is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps”. The object was discovered by the Kuratorium Pfahlbauten during a routine inspection of the site in 2024.
