More model information

3D scan of a flat axe made of copper. The object was found at the UNESCO-World Heritage site “Prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps” in Keutschach in Carinthia (Austria) during a regular monitoring campaign in 2024. The typical form of this object dates it into the end of the Copper Age and the Early Bronze Age (around 2200 BCE). Copper axes were used for various purposes: for woodworking (e.g., felling trees, building huts), as ritual objects or status symbols (often found in graves), but also in hunting and combat.

Object: Flat Axe

Inventory number: GK243

Collection: Municipality Keutschach, Kuratorium Pfahlbauten, UNESCO-World Heritage site Keutschach Coll. (curator: Lieselore Meyer, meyer@pfahlbauten.at)

Scanned and edited by Klara Ansari.

This object was digitzed during the internship “Welterbe digital serviert” funded by the FFG.
