In this model we show how an existing unvented float roof can be retrofitted with insulation. Firstly, a layer of UdiTHERM wood fibre board is carefully cut to fit snuggly between the existing joists and is pressed up against the wooden board forming the roof covering. This will typically be up to 100mm thick but contact us for a formal specification. Next, the SteicoFlex flexible wood fibre insulation is pressed in underneath the UdiTHERM. This should be slightly deeper (10-15mm) than the void being filled so that when the OSB boards are installed they can clamp all the materials in place. On the underside the Ampatex Variano variable VCL membrane is installed along with an OSB layer to support the insulation. The membrane must be well taped and sealed against the perimeter walls to ensure airtightness. Finally, counter-battens are installed and more of the SteicoFlex flexible wood fibre insulation is fitted between to bring the insulation levels up to the required level.
