Flint used with Long Gun 3D Model
Flints like this one were used to create a spark after striking a steel frizzen, igniting black powder and creating the combustion that would propel lead shot from a flintlock weapon such as a musket, carbine, or pistol. This gunflint was made in Spain and was found at a 19th-century fishing rancho in St. Petersburg, Florida. By the middle of the 19th century, the US military had replaced flintlocks with the percussion cap firing system, although private individuals continued to use them until the end of the century.
