The Florentine Boar was commissioned by Strutt when the park formed part of his private garden. It was an earthenware copy of a bronze statue which Strutt had visited in the New Market, central Florence. The earthenware version of the boar was damaged in 1841, this is a 3D scan of the new bronze replica which was put in place in November 2005.
