Fort Amsterdam, Ambon, Indonesia3D Model
Fort Amsterdam (MAHS-IDN-MLK-MLT-LHT-S-001-F-0001) was built by the Dutch in the 17th century on the north coast of Ambon in Maluku. It is located on a small spit of land overlooking the sea. The fort served as both a military base and the central office for the VOC administration of Ambon. Inside its walls are a solid, three-story blockhouse and a well. The blockhouse later served as the residence of naturalist Georg Eberhard Rumphius, who conducted research in Maluku during the latter half of the 17th century. Perched precariously right at the shoreline, it is vulnerable to coastal hazards of erosion and sea level change.
