Fort Warren Monument. Historical marker erected at the site of Fort Warren, Castleton, Vermont by the Ann Story Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1904. The marker stands at the intersection of VT Rte 4A and East Hubbardton Rd (1776 Hubbardton Military Road), Castleton, Rutland County, VT. Scanned using an Artec Leo by Joseph Kinney, Spring 2024. Fully textured model. Fort Warren was constructed in a joint effort by the citizens of Castleton and the Vermont troops during the American Revolutionary War in 1779. The “1777” on the marker may be in reference to the 1777 Skirmish of Castleton, which occured on the same site two years before the fort was constructed. This would explain the word “conflict” upon the stone in “CONFLICT-SITE OF FORT WARREN.”
The monument reads as follows: CONFLICT-SITE OF / FORT WARREN / 1777-1779 / ERECTED UNDER THE AUSPICES OF / ANN STORY CHAPTER / DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION / 1904
