The Art Nouveau fountain was created by the sculptor Prof. Jobst from Darmstadt, whose proposal was selected in a competition. The figure of Mercury (god of trade and commerce) is enthroned on the fountain, leading Pluto, the god of wealth, by the hand. The body of the fountain made of shell limestone is located in the castle courtyard exactly at the intersection between Isenburg Castle and the building of today’s College of Design (Hochschule für Gestaltung).
