Fowberry Excavation Site 1 (Jan 2007)3D Model
Area of outcrop set on private land in the Fowberry Moor area, near Wooler, Northumberland.
Found during an excavation by Stan Beckensall and University of Newcastle in 1973, the dig unearthed a double arc of cobbles placed on top of bedrock, some of which were also carved. Referenced ‘Fowberry Excavation Site 1’ on the Beckensall Archive (BA) that notes:
“There is a very large cup connected by a groove to a smaller one, on which fifteen other cups roughly centre. This clustering makes a fitting end to the designs on the rest of the outcrop.”
It was added to ERA by NADRAP in 2008.
