Fowberry Excavation Site 7 (Jan 2007)3D Model
Area of detached outcrop set on private land in the Fowberry Moor area, near Wooler, Northumberland.
Found during an excavation by Stan Beckensall and University of Newcastle in 1973, the dig unearthed a double arc of cobbles placed on top of bedrock, some of which were also carved. Referenced ‘Fowberry Excavation Site 7’ on the Beckensall Archive (BA), it was added to ERA by NADRAP in 2008. The BA describes:
“There is a detached isosceles triangle of rock bew Fowberry Excavation site - Rock 7, and this has been used to centre an arced group of cups on three concentric penannulars around a cup where the groove, instead of being directed into the ground, points towards the downward grooves on the main outcrop.”
