Fowberry Excavation Site 9 (July 2006)3D Model
Area of outcrop set on private land in the Fowberry Moor area, near Wooler, Northumberland.
Found during an excavation by Stan Beckensall and University of Newcastle in 1973, the dig unearthed a double arc of cobbles placed on top of bedrock, some of which were also carved. Referenced ‘Fowberry Excavation Site 9’ on the Beckensall Archive (BA), it was added to ERA by NADRAP in 2008. BA describes:
“This flat slab is at the deepest part of the outcrop, and some rock may have been removed from above it before the decoration was added. There are two main motifs: a cup and groove moving to the right with four penannulars, and a similar figure facing away from it with three penannulars. They are linked by a single groove above them which joins the outer ring of the left-hand motif.”
