The ruins of Fowlecombe House, west of the current Fowlescombe farm house, South Hams, Devon.
Built in 1537 (by Sir Thomas Fowell) and remodelled in the late 18th Century, the house was abandoned in either 1865 (Fowlescombe website) or 1919 (Historic England) and is now partially collapsed and much overgrown. However recent efforts to clear and preserve the ruin have much improved its appearance and condition.
The mansion is cited as a good contender as the inspiration for Baskerville Hall in “The Hound of the Baskervilles” by Arthur Conan Doyle.
