More model informationFrog? Nope – Lichen! Freckle Pelt (Peltigera aphthosa) is a common leafy lichen in the forests of Alberta. The flattened freckles are cyanobacteria. They provide nitrogen to the other lichen partners, the green algae and the fungus. Alberta has at least four species of Freckle Pelts; they look the same but genetically the fungal partners are distinct. Learn more about Freckle Pelt in Alberta here. Visit the Duke University Cyanolichen Project page to learn more about our collaborative research that involves Freckle Pelt here.
