More model informationTotten Beacons were mid-19th century aids-to-navigation placed along the length of the Florida Reef. They were unlit, iron posts standing over 30 feet out of the water; each bearing a unique letter and color scheme to denote its location. This model shows two iron post bases from what appear to be two different versions of the French Reef Totten Beacon. The large iron disc on one example might have helped the crew installing it to turn and auger the shaft into the seafloor.
