More model information

The iron post of a Totten Beacon, with a large “G” attached, found submerged at French Reef, Florida Keys. Totten Beacons were first installed in the early 1850’s, by a US Coast Survey team led by Lt. James Totten, to assist mariners in navigating the dangerous reefs and shoals of the Florida Keys. The beacons were unlit, iron posts standing over 30 feet out of the water, with one each bearing a unique letter and color scheme to denote its location. Most of these historic aids-to-navigation have fallen and are found underwater today.
