Model of a pear of the variety Abate Fetel. The long and club-shaped fruit reaches or exceeds 12 cm in length and 7 cm in diameter, making it one of the large to very large varieties. This pear is a chance seedling discovered in 1866 by the namesake Abbé Fétel near the commune of Chessy-les-Mines in the Rhône department of France and first described in 1886. The flesh is white, with a firm, coarse-cell texture and a sweet, low-acid taste.
