This is a small area of Panel 6 at the V bar V Heritage Site south of Sedona Arizona in the Coconino Forest. This Sinagua Petroglyph is covered and being progressivly destroyed by lichen that have been growing on the rock surface primarily because of a tree that was located directly in front of the cliff face. The tree has been cut down in Nov. 2021 for safety reasons.
This is part of a monitoring study due to the concern that without the shade protection of the tree, the lichen may die hastening the degradation of the rock surface and loss of the petroglyphs on it.
This model is of a Bear Paw motif which may represent a clan symbol for the bear clan. The paw is approximately 8 centimeters across.
