This is one of almost one dozen fungal growths that were on a tree in front of the rock art cliff face at the site. The tree has been cut down in Nov. 2021 for safety reasons. It is not clear if the growths were a result of the tree dying or were a primary cause.
This one sided model is of a typical specimen recovered when the tree was cut down. It is approximately 20 centimeters in width.
This is part of a monitoring study due to the concern that without the shade protection of the tree, the lichen may die hastening the degradation of the rock surface and loss of the petroglyphs on it.
