More model information

Checking out what worked and what didn’t capturing a complex sculpture.

Source images: 240 photos. Canon 1DS III, 15mm fisheye

Point cloud: Agisoft Photoscan, medium quality alignment, high quality dense cloud, 9.3M points

Mesh: CloudCompare Poisson Surface Reconstruction 10,1,8,1 Density > Scalar field > RGB. 4.5M faces decimated to 1M

Point weight of 1 for the reconstruction provides better detail in very thin sections although creates some bulging where holes are filled. But it’s easier to manually edit the model.

Main problems with shooting strategy: not enough images at ground level. Should have increased exposure for shaded areas, should have decreased exposure for top surface and was so fucsed on the complex detail I didn’t take enough shots on the easiest parts (the top)
