A fungal cell is a basic unit of a fungus, which is a type of microorganism. It is a eukaryotic cell, meaning like animal and plant cells, it has a nucleus which houses the genetic material, DNA, and other membrane-bound organelles such as the mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and vacuoles. However, unlike plants cells which has cellulose in their cell wall, fungal cells have a distinctive cell wall made of a carbohydrate called chitin.
Fun fact about Fungal cell. Fungal cells are saprophyte heterotrophs. Unlike plants that can produce their own food through photosynthesis, fungi are unable to generate energy from sunlight. Instead, they obtain nutrients by absorbing organic matter from their surroundings.
Another thing about Fungi is they can be unicellular, multicellular, or dimorphic, which is when the fungi is unicellular or multicellular.
