This model of Liverpool, created by members of the FACT Digital Ambassadors group, was inspired by Future Aleppo exhibited at FACT. The group explored the psycho-geography of Liverpool by hand making and then digitally capturing maps, models and stories. They built paper models using the same technique as Mohammed, photographed them, used photogrammetry and 3D design software to reconstruct them as a virtual cityscape.
About Future Aleppo: Fifteen year old Mohammed Kteish designed and built a 3D model city in his garage, which he had to leave behind when his family fled the city to escape the gun fire and bombs of the Syrian civil war. The VR film brings the model to life as visitors are guided by Mohammed through the cities streets, allowing them to discover stories embedded within a young boy’s imaginative recreation of his home.
