Early Christian monastery (OF014-029----) founded at Gallen, Co. Offaly by St. Canoc in 492 AD. This monastic site was excavated in 1934-5 by T. D. Kendrick. About 200 fragments of cross-slabs dating from the 8th/11th-centuries were uncovered by this excavation. Sandstone cross slab fragment measuring 0.11m high x 0.18m wide that has been inserted into the western face of a wall built on the line of the west gable of the excavated church. Fragment of slab bears two incised vertical lines running down the right side. In the upper left corner there is a pellet enclosed by the arc of a double line circle.
