Description: Blueschist (or glaucophane schist) is a fine- to medium-grained, dark lilac-grey (seldom truly-blue), foliated metamorphic rock containing amphibole glaucophane. Blueschist forms at high pressure and low temperature (subducting slab of lithosphere). Its protolith (parent-rock) can be Siltstone or Shale.
Essential minerals: blue amphibole (glaucophane).
Non-essential minerals: epidote, albite, calcite, garnet, quartz, zoisite, jadeite, mica, talc, etc.
