More model information

Another of the prehistoric cup marked rocks found in the Gayles Plantation area of Feldom Ranges, North Yorkshire.

Thought to have been first recorded by Stuart Feather in 1966, it was subsequently catalogued ‘D17’ in Beckensall and Laurie’s 1998 book, ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale’. 10 years later, it was ‘FR20d’ in ‘Prehistoric Rock Art in the Northern Dales’, and described:

“Rounded boulder 108 x 108 x 45cm. Four cups, one with faint ring.”

Beckensall draws the ring around the W cup, adding several other markings to the stone. Using virtual light on this model, other ‘natural rings’ may surround two other cups, suggesting morphology and light direction may have influenced cup placement. However, one of the cups may also have a natural origin.

This model was created from 53 photos captured by Richard Stroud in April 2026.
