This is one of the cluster of prehistoric cup marked rocks found in the Gayles Plantation area of Feldom Ranges, North Yorkshire.

Stan Beckensall and Tim Laurie reference the carving ‘D18’ in their 1998 book, ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale’ and Paul and Barbara Brown record it ‘FR21a’ in their 2008 publication in ‘Prehistoric Rock Art in the Northern Dales’. They describe:

“Large irregular-shaped boulder 160 x 100 x 58cm. Approx. 19 cups.”

Beckensall’s drawing in the 1998 publication shows two cups with short grooves, one is visible on this model. In 1998, a central stone section appears to have been covered, protecting a now-exposed cup. Two cups still show distinct peck marks.
