More model informationBy 1943, the Germans had suffered two major defeats in the Soviet Union – at Moscow and Stalingrad. The Soviets gradually began pushing the Germans out of Russia. Adolf Hitler desperately needed a decisive victory to boost the morale of the German people and his army. He bet everything on a massive attack by the German panzer divisions Panzerwaffe on Kursk, 450 km southwest from Moscow. The operation was given the code name Citadel (German: Zitadelle). The battle was to crush the Red Army. However, it resulted in the Soviets seizing the initiative and having the upper hand until the end of WWII.
