Jean Cidelca leads a popular tour in Miami’s Little Haiti. He drives a bus similar to the “tap tap” buses you would find in the island country.
He explains the name: “When you’re, let’s say, on a public transportation in Haiti at times the driver cannot hear you. So for you to get down, you actually tap the side of the bus. Like tap tap. And then that wave actually carries all the way to the front so the driver can hear you and says, I need to slow down. So that’s where the name tap tap comes from. The official name is actually camionette.”
We made 3D models of Cidelca and his bus using photogrammetry. Jean’s animation comes from combining the model with his real movement, which was captured in the field with a Microsoft Kinect motion sensor.
