A character model made for a unit at University. In this unit we were tasked with designing characters based purely on a “type” to make. For this character it had to be based around the type of a Giant Mech. We then had to design, model and then texture these characters in a 4k triangle limit +- 10%.
When approaching the design of this character I decided to take the idea of a giant mech and give it an alien feel rather than the more generic eastern styled or western styled forms. I wanted to base my character around a theme and that theme was one of corpse harvesting. After many iterations and designs I eventually settled on this character as I felt it hit the evil/alien vibe I wanted but still comfortably fit within the Triangle limit.
I then created some orthographic shots of it and then modelled it inside of 3DS Max. The textures were created and applied inside of Substance Painter using material groups. The mech came out as two 1024x1024 maps seperate by type such as body and tendrils.
