More model informationThis bone is the femur of a giant tortoise, which is thick and squat to support its great weight. It is a large and robust limb bone that contributes to the structural support and movement of the tortoise’s hind limbs. In giant tortoises the femur is adapted to support their substantial body weight and slow, lumbering movement.
It was scanned with an Artec Spider by undergraduate students from the Maastricht Science Programme at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Maastricht University.
