A 3D interpretation of the classic Memphis ‘Ginza Robot’ cabinet originally designed by Masanori Umeda in 1982.
Memphis was established by Ettore Sottsass in 1981. Its objective was to create colourful, abstact postmodern pieces fit for times of prosperity and accelerating industrialism.Despite lasting only a few years, it left a lasting impact on the world of design, with some of the pieces, including Bel Air chair, still in production.
The cabinet geometric bold style epitomises the iconic look and feel of 80s interpreted through the eyes of the designer who was fascinated about Japan’s role in the robot-race.
This particular 3D model had been designed and textured in Autodesk Fusion 360, to test colour quality and resolution of full-colour, multi-material Additive Manufacturing systems (Stratasys’ Polyjet J750 and Mimaki 3DUJ-553).
