More model informationThis is a tribute to the 17th-century Dutch Golden Age / Baroque painter Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) and his captivating painting, Girl with a Pearl Earring (1665).
The painting is a tronie of a girl wearing an exotic dress, an oriental turban, and an improbably large pearl earring. It has been in the collection of the Mauritshuis in The Hague since 1902.
Being faithful to the original painting while pushing depth beyond the 2D realm, I am interested to bring her to life, as if she is reading the audience’s reaction, wanting to comment but too shy to speak.
