Gneiss

Gneiss is a metamorphic rock produced through high-grade regional metamorphism. It’s compisition typically consists of Quartz, Feldspars, Mica (usually Biotite and/or Muscovite), and occasionally garnet, however it’s composition can vary somewhat depending on it’s protolith (It’s pre-metamorphic state).

Gneiss exhibits a strong foliation fabric, a product of the regional metamorphic process that formed it.
