Distinguishing Characteristics: Gneiss is a very hard rock with distinct bands of pink, grey, black and white. It has large crystals that glitter in the sunlight.

Uses: Counter tops, crushed rock in road construction, cemetery monuments, tiles, and decorative facing stone.
