More model informationA cope is a semi-circular garment worn in a procession. The shield shaped piece on the back is a non-functional stylised hood. It is fastened by a fabric or metal bar known as a morse. This cope dates from 19th century and was made in Manchester by Thomas Brown and Co. It is made of cream silk damask with polychrome embroidery with stylised Crown Imperial and Acanthus in heavy gold thread over card and decorated with spangles and gold bullion fringes. The IHS in Gothic letters in the centre of the hood is one of the sacred monograms. This object belongs to the Scottish Catholic Heritage Collections Trust, T8005BLRBM
