The Wittgenstein family grave is located in Vienna’s Central Cemetery, in an older part of the Jewish section (group 1, row 20, no. 21). It is a large family grave, simple but dignified in design – a solid stone base with several name plaques, surrounded by old trees. Its size and shape make it look like a typical grave of a wealthy industrial family of the fin de siècle.
The grave is mainly the resting place of members of the Wittgenstein industrial family. It is the final resting place of Karl Wittgenstein (1847–1913), one of the most important steel industrialists of the Habsburg Monarchy and father of Ludwig Wittgenstein. His wife Leopoldine is also buried there. Two of their children, their daughter Hermine and their son Rudolf Wittgenstein, also found their final resting place in this family grave.
