A detailed model of the grana of a chloroplast, showing granal and stromal thylakoids, starch granules and plastoglobuli. This model also shows interconnections between the grana. Chloroplasts are responsible for photosynthesis in plant and algal cells. Chlorophyll is the photosynthetic pigment which absorbs light energy, converts it, and chemically stores it in energy-storage molecules. The 3d model also shows grana stacks in which in plants and some algae, the chloroplast thylakoids are arranged.
