Description: Phaneritic rock containing quartz and both potassic feldspar and sodic-plagioclase, the latter in excess of the former; intermediate in composition between quartz diorite and quartz monzonite, containing quartz, plagioclase (oligoclase or andesine, often zoned), and potassic feldspar (orthoclase, microcline, various perthites) with biotite, hornblende, and rarely pyroxene.
Essential minerals: quartz, plagioclase, potassic feldspar (orthoclase, microcline), biotite, hornblende.
Accessory minerals: magnetite, ilmenite, apatite, titanite, zircon, etc.
