This is a 3D model created using the free and opensource software Meshroom/AliceVision. I had created this model in the past using AgiSoft PhotoScan and wanted to compare the results with Meshroom, using the same data. This grapeshot was found by Ally Thorne whilst beach walking after a storm last year (2016) on the island of Sanday, near Start Point. The grapeshot consists of a mass of iron balls held within a fabric bag that has now become concreted and disintegrated. The base of the grape shot is a circular wood disc with a central upright connecting wooden post. The metal balls were cast large enough to cause damage to the upper works of a ship such as the rigging, spars and sails. This grapeshot is likely to be from a wreck lost off Sanday in the 17th/18th century or onwards.
