This scene contains patient-specific left innominates displaying a range of variation in the greater sciatic notch, a feature used in combination with other pelvic features to assist with sex estimation of a skeleton in forensic anthropology and bioarchaeology.
Generally the GSN is wider in females and narrower in males, but the trait is scored on a five point scale from wide to narrow and is always evaluated in conjunction with other skeletal features. See Walker 2005 and citing literature for more info. From this scene, you can see the continuous nature of this feature and the overlap between individuals designated males and females along the continuum. See Morphopasse for an overview of other traits.
Innominates were segmented from the CT Lymph Nodes Collection of the Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA).
