Prehistoric carving found in the Green Crag area of Rombalds Moor, West Yorkshire.
This single motif can be found on the edge of a large rock referenced IAG289 in Boughey & Vickerman’s 2003 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding’. The CSI: Rombalds Moor project subsequently referenced the stone ‘Green Crag 02’ on ERA in 2013, describing:
‘Exposed area of rock is approx 2.6m (E-W) and 2.6m (N-S) but under vegetation at S, height 0.82m at NE corner. Carving consists of a single cup at NE corner with a 8cm diameter.’
The cup may have been placed to utilise natural bedding and give the impression of a ring.
