More model informationThis object from the Princeton Battlefield State Park was made of iron. Grenades were small, handheld explosive shells which, like explosive shell shot, were hollow and filled with gunpowder. Likewise, they had a plug and slow burning fuse which would detonate the grenade after lighting. Grenades were typically an offensive and defensive siege weapon in the 18th century but could be found on the battlefield as well. They had largely gone out of fashion by the time of the American Revolution, making this a unique battlefield artifact.
