Grenadier of the Life Guards Semenovsky Regiment Гренадер Лейб-гвардии Семеновского полка
On March 9, 1812, the Life Guards Semenovsky Regiment set out from St. Petersburg on a campaign to the western borders of the Russian Empire. At this time, the regiment included (excluding non-combatant) 6 staff officers, 45 chief officers, 147 non-commissioned officers, 92 musicians and 1,800 privates. The regiment consisted of three battalions. The first company of each battalion was called the grenadier. In Russia, grenadier companies began to form under Peter I. In addition to rifles, they were also armed with hand grenades (grenades). In 1763, hand grenades were removed from service. The name “grenadier” began to be applied to selected infantry units, units and formations.
