More model informationThis a solid wooden rammer for one of the XI-inch Dahlgren cannon excavated from the USS Monitor’s turret. Two such rammers were recovered. It would have been attached to a long iron rod, and hung from the turret ceiling near it’s cannon.
This is likely one of the most well preserved, organic artifacts we have from the shipwreck. It is shown here in black and white, to better portray the grain and cracks.
It will go on display in the museum’s gallery soon!
