Chūken Hachikō (忠犬ハチ公) and his owner the Dr Hidesaburō Ueno 上野 英三郎 博士
known as “faithful dog Hachikō”: the Dr Ueno, professor at the Todai, acquired Hachikō on 1923, He gave him lot of love and raised him with affection, respect and great care… hachi following the Dr everywhere and accompagnied him to the campus (Komaba) or to the Shibuya station when the Dr Ueno had to take train…
Sadly on the May 21, 1925, Dr Ueno passed away on the campus. But Hachi still keeps his routine to go every morning and evening to wait his owner at the station.
he did it until his death on March 8, 1935, so 10 years, everyday he was coming at the ticket gate of the station to wait, without success, his owner
Hachi’s grave is beside to Ueno’s grave
As Josh Billings said: “A dog is the only thing on earth that love you more than you love yourself”
this statue reminds the joy between Hachi and the Dr Ueno at this ticket gate
it was made by Tsutomu Ueda on 2015 for the 80th anniversary of the death of Hachi
