Hakea bakeriana pod and seeds

This Hakea bakeriana seed pod is in its opened state showing the expelled seeds. It is the same specimen as this model. When originally collected, the pod was sealed, and the original model was scanned after one day, when it was just beginning to open. After another week, the pod desiccated and consequently opened wide and the two seeds were expelled, as can be seen in this model. The seeds are ‘winged’ by paper-thin tissue to facilitate dispersal by wind. More information can be found on this species on the NSW Plantnet site.
