My design of a 1,200 square foot healing space addition onto the Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, RI. This healing space is meant to be a room for the patients of the hospital to relax and escape their issues for a while. Because it is a children’s hospital, ages 5-18, I designed a more fantastical design, drawing my ideas from the word “novelty”. I wanted to show something new to the children, while at the same time bringing nature into the design, as most of the children rarely leave the hospital. Thus, I designed the room around the theme of a mushroom forest, as this incorporated elements of nature while also being wildly imaginative and novel. The room on the bottom left is a reading nook, with shelves of books, couches, and tables to sit at. The room on the bottom right is a creation space, ideally with Legos and clay. The entire space and all the rooms in it were also designed to meet ADA accessibility standards.
