Hathor-Headed Sistrum

Fragment of a sistrum (a type of musical instrument often used in a ritual context) made out of faience. The decoration shows the head of the godess Hathor, represented as a woman with the ears of cow. Although Hathor is normally associated with ancient Egypt, this object actually comes from Meroe, a major ancient city located in the modern country of Sudan.
