Not all archaeology is ancient, and the Photogrammetry Team in the Archaeology, Classics, and Egyptology department at the University of Liverpool have collaborated with Manchester’s Archives+ and 11:37 Enterprises to digitally preserve the iconic head of Frank Sidebottom, the alter-ego of comedian, musician, and cult pop culture icon Chris Sievey (1955-2010).
Chris is primarily known for his musical work with his band ‘The Freshies’ in the 1970s and 80s and for his comedic character Frank Sidebottom. From 1984, Frank became a beloved feature on television and radio, particularly in the North West. Chris and Frank have a devoted fanbase who have successfully campaigned for a statue (in Timperley, Manchester) and crowdfunded a documentary ‘Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story’ (2018). He also inspired and collaborated on the film ‘Frank’ (2014) starring Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
